Scheduled Events: BEA 2014 & Special Edition NYC

16 May

I have good news: I will be attending two events and I am incredibly excited.

I’m so happy to announce I will be going to BEA/BookCon starting Thursday, May 29th-31st.

Last year was my first time attending BEA’s Power Reader day (which is now BookCon), and to be able to go all 3 days this year leaves me speechless. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to meet all the authors I follow– YAYYYY!!!! I’m already making lists of all the panels, authors, signings, events, books, and everything that I can to make the most out of it. I feel like a kid in a candy shop and the event is still two weeks from now!

Special Edition NYC

And I will also be at SPECIAL EDITION: NYC! A Comic book-only festival that will be held annually. I’m stoked and can’t wait for it to come already!

Will you guys be attending? Are you as excited as I am? Let me know! =)

X-Men X-Perience Live, Global Premiere in NYC

16 May

Let me just start by saying: WOW!

After a night out and sleeping 4 hours to get to the Javits by 6am, I was not prepared to line-up for 10 hours and remain standing for+10… Was it worth it? TOTALLY WORTH IT.Fun times in line with Ray from BecauseCowsMakeDelicious!

First off: I would like to say I was in line behind one of my favorite alt. models/cosplayers, Cin’ Von Quinzel (on FB), and she looks as beautiful as she does on pictures. I was too out of it and shy to say anything. However, now I wish I had asked for a pic; She dressed as Mystique and she looked amazing. I really liked all the cosplayers I saw at the event- Bishop looked great, too.

In line we were given the new flavored Twinkies, pink and blue (which was the one I had), and RedBull– one of my favorite drinks ever… and yes, I know it’s pretty unhealthy, but oh-so-deelish! Thank goodness for that sweet nectar of the gods, it was the one thing that helped me stand and cheer for so long. YEAAAAAAHHH!

The place “red” actually blue carpet was located in the Javits looked GREAT! From the huge X’s hanging from the ceiling to the huge screen projecting 3D images of the characters… the lights, the music, the people. It was all so beautiful. We got some swag (t-shirts and posters) and then it was trivia time with Skeery Jones from Z100- so much stuff signed by Hugh Jackman. Ray won a poster signed by him. Let’s say the questions were a tad off, but we had a great crowd that stuck by their own. I loved the spirit and sense of familiarity in the environment, I felt so happy being there!

I was too busy taking pictures of Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence to remember to ask them to sign my poster, but I did get Booboo Stewart’s and producer Lauren Shuler Donner’s. Wootsies!

Turns out that the first 500 fans to get to the event would get complimentary badges to watch the movie that same day. I was dehydrated and thought I was going to crash and sleep through when I entered, but man, was I wrong. ITWASSOAWESOME! I won’t spoil it for anyone, but I need to say that it was just everything I hoped for and even more so, and I just couldn’t get enough of it. *hearts, winks, and all fangirl stuff* ❤

Ray and I wrote a report on the event for Bleeding Cool. You can read it here.

It was a perfect day with the perfect ending despite the little bumps, which is bound to happen on long days. As I write this I feel as if I’m reliving that day and it feels so great– I mean, nothing better than bitter morning coffee, yummy hotdogs, twinkies, fries, redbull, great company and a cast of the most dreamy and gorgeous people to make a day wonderful.

Late Post: Free Comic Book Day 2014

9 May

Hello, you wonderful people!

This past Saturday I was able to attend FCBD for the 5th year in a row- and quite happy I did, actually. Out of all the FCBD’s I have attended this was the most organized and well-thought-out of them all.

The day of I managed to wake up at 4am, leave by 5am, and got to Midtown Comics at 6am– and there were like 10 people lined up already! They started at 8am, promptly, and I got my baggie and a kids one, too, along with Mouse Guard. I love those. In total there were about 24 comic books. I was quite happy and surprised that they did it outside; it cut down on the time and the hassle of having to go up and down the small set of stairs… Even though I did go upstairs because: who can miss out on going to Midtown Comics when you are right there to begin with? It is one of my favorite places in NYC ❤

Part of the loot ❤

After the short trek, I headed to Forbidden Planet NYC- another favorite place in my beautiful city. There was already a line in which I was like no. 50 or so… They started moving around 9am and I kept seeing people walk out with this huge FPNYC bag. I was a tad worried I was not going to get one of those, and again I was happily surprised at how fast and organized the event was– not to mention mega-happy because I got a bag with like 60 comic books in it.

After getting my bag I  stayed for Fred Van Lente’s signing which started at 10am- he had two comic books coming out for FCBD: PROJECT BLACK SKY and DEFEND COMICS. Then, I stayed for one more hour because at 11am Joe Mulvey was signing the FCBD edition of SCAM at 11am. I was second in line and hoping to be the first to answer a question Mulvey posted on twitter the night before in order to win an original piece of his artwork… imagine my sadness when the person who went first did. *tear* hahaha. Either way, though, I got to meet him and it was all wonderful.

It was a wonderful day, truly, and I cannot wait to see what they will have in store for next year’s FCBD. Congratulations to both, Midtown Comics and Forbidden Planet NYC, for holding a fantastic and smooth event. ❤
