Happy 2015 You Guys!

23 Jan

Hello world!

A little late, but Happy 2015 to you, all! I have been a hermit, I know- but I have working really hard to get my crap together, leave doubts behind, and just create (art, crafts, write, read…). I have been swimming in a sea of projects to just start generating new and fresher ideas.

After a long literary dry-spell I finally picked up a book that is blowing me off my freaking feet. Thank you Old Man Geek for lining up at SDCC last year to get me Beautiful You. This book, you guys, OMG! Beautiful You by Chuck Palahniuk is simply amazing. I have most of his book and I still have not finished most because I am always stunned by the beautifully written prose– the descriptions in all of his books are more visually effective than a movie’s. Thank you, Chuck Palahniuk for bringing back to me the joy of reading with yet another one of your magnificent works.

For a while I have been drowning with doubts about my writing, my art… all of it. And now I decided: you know what? I miss doing what I love and why am I getting so anxious about if it is something I need to do to survive. Like air: I need art, books, and pens in my life– it is as needed as water, the ways I can express myself without awkwardness, the way I charge my batteries. So I decided: To hell with the doubts and fears, I am doing what I love. And let me tell you, I have been very happy and inspired lately, I am super proud of the things I have created so far this year and very excited to work on those I have planned. I still need a job, granted, but I am looking– wish me luck! ❤ Positive vibes all around ❤

So yeah… expect to see more of my art, writings, reviews, and crafts. Yes, I do plan on catching you all up to what has happened while I have been a tad MIA.

See you soon, my lovelies. Geek OUT! ❤

Back? Maybe, Probably… Hopefully.

Hi world! I know, I totally suck at keeping you guys posted, but I promise: I do have a reason for all of this. To give y’all a (mildly) brief overview of what has gone on these past couple of months, keywords: crazy & hectic.

Last time I was here I was heading to San Diego for SDCC… well, it happened and it was everything I expected and hoped for, and soooo much more. I had the pleasure of going for Bleeding Cool and, once again, I was given the best opportunity ever and had the most amazing experience.

First: the city was so beautiful and the people are incredibly nice. It still feels like I was there in a dream and not in reality. I met many amazing artists/creators and made new fantastic friends whom I had the pleasure of dorming with. I didn’t purchase or take much considering I had to travel with a limited amount of baggage, which was already fully packed with more clothes than I should’ve taken in the first place… seriously, travel light, guys-it’s not worth it to take too much crap. I will be posting the links I contributed to BC and talk more about the whole trip/experience.

A bit before heading there we put up a site (Old Man Geek and I), which is still on its way up- but we are working on new original content and many projects to get it up and running full-steam: www.oldmangeek88.com, to which I contribute and edit for. Go check it out! I will be, also, posing more about this and link up to my contributions. I am currently working on a bi-weekly project called Moonie Monday, in which I talk about the new Sailor Moon Crystal episodes; I’m hoping to expand more on these posts to cover more of the Moonie-verse like products, merchandise, freelance and fanart, … I am, also, putting together a sekrit project to bring more beautiful artwork ibto the site- artists I love, be prepared to hear from me soon!

Also, the new season of Doctor Who started and Old Man Geek and I were lucky enough to get tickets. We waited in line for over 5 hours and we were rewarded: we got to see Steven Moffat, Peter Capaldi, Jenna Louise Coleman, and Chris Hardwick in person. It was amazing! Oh, and Old Man Geek won me an Adipose Pen, woohoo!

NYCC‘s Heroes Night and Villains Night also came and went, and they were both amazing. Let me start by saying that with only a couple of drinks during Heroes Night I left way more buzzed than I have ever been– and I won a New York Super Week card and a t-shirt… for Villains, I didn’t win anything, sadly, but I saw many friends and made so many new amazing ones that I still feel so happy and warm inside. I love events where I can be myself with all my fellow geeks. Thank you for those wonderful nights, ReedPop!

So let me see… what else has happened since. Mostly work, job-hunting, seeing my friends to keep sane… oh, I sold my first commission and my customers were so happy with it. I swear,  that brightened my life. I was so nervous the whole time I was drawing/inking/coloring, it’s why I think took me so long; but I was pleased with the way it turned out. Achievement Unlocked: Freelance Artist Ale!

I also got new artwork (which I shall expand on later, on another post): one from the amazing artist Miss Kika (Liz Lorini) and the shirt to match, and a beautiful piece and art book by the wonderful ZambiCandy. I got my first Loot Crate ever this month and it was so packed with awesomeness that it has convinced me to keep getting moaaaar! (:

I know: it is so much for just one post, but I promise I will expand more on each subject whenever I am on short breaks… you shall, all, hear about my love for my Nerdist Hoodie, how disgusted I am with all the Milo Manara cover problems that went on (not the art but people’s reactions to It), how amazing and inspiring Guardians of the Galaxy was to me, artwork and books I’m reading… everything really!

See you shortly, guys! And thanks for all the support♥

All Roads Lead to SDCC

21 Jul

Hello world! It is so nice to be here again- I have been all over the place, running like a chicken with its head cut off, trying to get myself mentally economically, and physically ready for the crazy… Tomorrow I’m heading to the whale’s vagina, in the immortal words of Ron Burgundy. In the throws of getting ready for SDCC I even gave my first step to becoming a mermaid and queen of the unicorns, I dyed my hair!

Let me tell you, guys: I am so darned excited, yet every couple of minutes I am crippled by a mix of doubt, nerves, and overwhelming anxiety. I cannot wait to go and I just want to do well- as you know I will be reporting for Bleeding Cool from there, so keep your eyes open. My main goal is to hit all those panels I picked for my itinerary, but I want to do it well and make them proud. It is my first time at SDCC and my first time traveling to the West Coast, so you can see why the mix of all those feelings hit me like a tidal wave every time I think about it. I actually don’t think it has hit me quite yet, the fact that I’ll be traveling-it might happen once I board that plain. That is when I will truly believe it is happening for real instead of just a really nice, and quite stressful, dream.

I am so looking forward to all the events, to meeting new people and making new friends. Feel free to hit me up over Twitter to let me know if you are coming, too!

The hardest part of this whole preparation time is dealing with the mini-freak out moments: finding tickets and not being able to buy them, so priced have gone up like crazy-each time making me raise my budget; finding a room to stay at during the convention time–thankfully I have Old Man Geek and a friend I made during NYCC when I volunteered as crew… (there is nothing like volunteering at a convention, I made so many amazing friends and acquaintances). But yeah, I’m happy each issue at hand has been resolved and I’m trying to keep myself in check and not stress out more than I should. Happy and excited.

I’m now sitting here, looking at my packed bags… all mostly done, just travel tomorrow and go 3 hours back in time. I guess I’m just being sort of masochistic,  trying to find things to stress over now that the heavy load is done. I just wish I could bring my family and friends with me. Aaaah, I want to scream and jump and get there already! Wish me luck, guys! ♡

Life, Work… Shenanigans!

20 Mar

Hello World!

I have been writing, drawing, working, and going over things in my head to make this blog something solid– yet, here I am, with exactly what I started with.

So in the midst of a new rejection letter I decided to celebrate today: what if I just stop worrying so much about how things should and will be, why not just do? Why should I be worrying about things that are absolutely out of my grasp? Right?… I decided to keep doing my best to be someone in life, whatever that means and whoever that will be, and just enjoy the time I have in my hands and make the best use of it. *smiley face* It is harder than it should, since school conditioned me to feel as if there is something approaching the corner that I could never be ready enough for.

But enough about that. Since I don’t know how I can un-broaden everything I love and plan to talk about, why don’t I give you, guys, a glimpse of who I am and what lies inside this TARDIS brain of mine. I want to share with you the things I like and am passionate about, and, hopefully, hear what you like– your likes, suggestions on new things to try (keep it clean, guys! mind out of the gutter :p), new materials to read, DIY projects, whatever… So, here it goes… I dunno if I should make it a list or just a new paragraph.

I love art, as I believe you might have seen– from classics to cartoons; I love seeing artists draw known art/characters in their own style (you can check previous posts for preview). Umm… My passions are reading and writing and falling in love with fictional characters and worlds; my genre of preference is Fiction- Sci-Fi/Fantasy (which is my favorite genre to write as well), manga, comics/graphic novels (Sandman FTW!). I need drawing and coloring in my life, and love doing crafty things from origami to sculpting and sewing. I love cartoons and anime, I think I have seen over 40 animes (not sure if I should be ashamed). I won’t even go into movies and shows, let’s just say it is all within the same genre everyone would call geeky/nerdy. I am obsessed with unicorns, dragons, faeries and all sorts of mythical creatures and cute animals, hearts, stars, wings, rainbows, keys…

As almost every other person I like shopping, and collecting things I like, too. I love geeky handmade jewelry, which you will see me post about (shout-out to small businesses!), and clothing as well– though I am not a fan of clothes shopping. I love rambling about things I read and finding people to talk about them with.

So this is all that my world entails, many worlds, likes, and passions to explore.

The question is, what would you like to see? I have gotten messages to share my art, to share my collections… What do you, guys, like?

Do you like art? Stay tuned, I will be hosting giveaway from my Spooksieboo prints collection soon!! Everyone needs beautiful art in their life… as well as a tad of creepiness ❤
